How do I start an export?
Click the XTract icon, type a username, and click "Export Followers" or "Export Following." A new tab will open on X and the export starts automatically.
Do I need to be logged in to X?
Yes. XTract uses your existing browser session to make API requests. You must be logged in to X/Twitter in Chrome.
Can I export any account's followers?
Any public account. If an account is private/protected, X's API will not return their follower data.
What formats are exported?
Both CSV and JSON are generated and downloaded automatically for every export.
How long does an export take?
It depends on the list size. XTract fetches ~20 users per request with a configurable delay (default 10 seconds). A 1,000-follower list takes roughly 8–10 minutes. A 10,000-follower list takes about 1.5–2 hours.
Can I speed it up?
You can lower the request interval to 8 seconds in Settings. Going faster increases the risk of rate limiting by X. We recommend keeping the default.
The export stopped with a rate limit error.
XTract automatically waits 60 seconds and retries. If it keeps failing, try increasing the request interval in Settings or enabling "Wait 5 minutes after every 1000 items."
My export says "Please log in to X."
Open x.com in a tab and make sure you're signed in, then try again.
The extension stopped working after an X update.
X occasionally changes its internal API. XTract is built to handle most updates automatically, but if the extension breaks, check for an update in chrome://extensions or reinstall from the Chrome Web Store.
Is my data sent anywhere?
No. All processing is local. Files download directly to your computer. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Where is my exported file?
Check your browser's default downloads folder. The files are named like followers_username.csv and followers_username.json.
Can I export tweets, bookmarks, or likes?
Not currently. XTract focuses on follower and following lists.
Is this against X's Terms of Service?
XTract uses the same API requests your browser makes when you scroll a follower list. We recommend using reasonable request intervals and not running excessive exports. Use at your own discretion.
